Extend Coverage To & From Secure-Mesh Enabled Devices

The SecureMesh Powerline Repeater serves as an intermediate wireless node in the SecureMesh Neighborhood Area Network (NAN) to relay messages to and from SecureMesh-enabled electric meters, gas meters, and in-building devices. A Powerline Repeater provides an easy way to increase the local density of mesh devices, reduce the range between devices, and improve overall NAN performance while at the same time offering improved and enhanced deployment capabilities.

Suitable for All SecureMesh Networks

Operation of a SecureMesh NAN requires that its nodes be connected via radio links so that a path from each node of the network can be established to and from the SecureMesh Collector. Range limitations of SecureMesh NAN devices in low-density rural deployments and obstructed paths in high-density suburban or urban deployments may require use of a SecureMesh Repeater to provide additional links and mesh routing alternatives.

Deployable Almost Anywhere

The Powerline Repeater can be installed on almost any power line, using a current transformer to power its operation through inductive coupling. The patented clamp mechanism and spring-action current transformer readily allows installation on energized power lines. As a result, the Powerline Repeater can be flexibly deployed based on communications and network connectivity requirements without being constrained by the availability of a 120-240VAC power source.

Minimal Deployment Time & Low Deployment Cost

Installation of a Powerline Repeater is simple. With no wires to connect, the Powerline Repeater simply clamps onto the power line. While installation of a standard Repeater may require at least a full hour of a crew’s time, the simplified installation of a Powerline Repeater can reduce that time to 20 minutes.

Robust, Durable Design

Made of corrosion-resistant materials and with all electronics completely encapsulated, the Powerline Repeater is designed to survive the harsh environment of power line mounting.

Standards-Based, Future-Proof Communications

Based on the ANSI 12.22 and IEEE 802.15.4 standards, the SecureMesh NAN’s open architecture allows Trilliant to offer a wide choice of electric and gas meters as well as in-home displays, thermostats, load control devices, and WAN backhaul options. Moreover, thanks to the network’s industry-leading 250 kbps data rate and the ability of all NAN modules to be upgraded over-the-air, the NAN is able to grow and adapt as utility applications become more and more demanding.

SecureMesh & UnitySuite – A Proven Solution

Trilliant’s SecureMesh Communications Network – comprising both the NAN and WAN – permits utilities to realize a wide variety of AMI and Smart Grid applications over a robust multi-tier wireless mesh network. Proven in multiple large-scale deployments, the SecureMesh Communications Network and UnitySuite™ Applications define a complete end-to-end solution for utilities to deploy, operate, and manage advanced metering, demand-side management, and other next-generation applications.
