SecureMesh Meters
SecureMesh™ Meters
SecureMesh Meters enable utilities to deploy electric and gas meter platform and its remote service disconnect capability as an element of the SecureMesh Neighborhood Area Network (NAN). The SecureMesh Residential Electric Meter is a self-contained or transformer-rated single-phase meter designed for use in residential applications. With a factory-installed, under-glass SecureMesh NAN communications module, the Landis+Gyr FOCUS AX-SD meter becomes an active node of the SecureMesh NAN’s self-forming, self-balancing, and selfhealing wireless mesh network.
SecureMesh Meters permits safe and reliable over-the-air service disconnects and connects. The SecureMesh meter continuously monitors the status of the disconnect switch to ensure that home generators or other supply voltages are not present before engaging a reconnect. Conversely, the meter reports an error condition if load-side voltage is not present when the switch is closed. This capability to remotely monitor load-side voltage provides additional data to help detect potential energy theft or tampering and offers a level of revenue assurance never before possible.
Superior AMI Support
A SecureMesh-enabled FOCUS AX-SD meter compiles meter readings over programmable intervals and relays the data back to the network head-end on either a scheduled or demand basis. A number of events are additionally recorded and relayed, including changes in energy flow that may indicate tampering and any power outage or restoration events experienced by the meter. To report power outage status as quickly as possible, power outage and restoration events can also be communicated as real-time alarms. The data flows supported by the SecureMesh NAN thus enable billing, metering, demand-side management, revenue assurance, and other utility programs.
Standards-Based, Future-Proof Communications
Each SecureMesh-enabled meter communicates reliably and securely via radio over the SecureMesh Neighborhood Area Network. Based on the ANSI C12.22 and IEEE 802.15.4 standards, the network’s open architecture allows Trilliant to offer and support a wide choice of electric and gas meters as well as in-home displays, thermostats, load control devices, and WAN backhaul options. Moreover, thanks to the network’s industry-leading 250 kbps data rate and the ability of all SecureMesh NAN modules to be upgraded over-the-air, the SecureMesh NAN is able to grow and adapt as utility applications become more and more demanding.
SecureMesh & UnitySuite – A Proven Solution
Trilliant’s SecureMesh Communications Network – comprising both the SecureMesh NAN and WAN — permits a utility to realize a wide variety of AMI and Smart Grid applications over a robust multi-tier wireless mesh network. Proven in multiple large-scale deployments, the SecureMesh Communications Network and UnitySuite™ Applications define a complete end-to-end solution for a utility to deploy, operate, and manage metering, demand-side management, and other next-generation applications.

A Complete Range of Meters
Trilliant offers a variety of advanced and C&I meters as well as basic residential electric meters from major manufacturers such as GE, Itron, and Landis+Gyr. Each meter is available in a wide range of ANSI forms, voltages, and meter class ratings and is equipped with a factory-installed, under-glass SecureMesh communications module. The SecureMesh module adds intelligence to the meter so that even a basic residential meter can provide many of the functions of an advanced meter and support interval metering and TOU billing. Each SecureMesh electric meter can report a power outage or restoration event to the head-end in real time, and each meter can detect tampering by reporting changes in energy flow direction or a reverse flow after an outage. Additionally, Trilliant supports meters with integrated service disconnect switches to allow remote disconnect/connect.
Trilliant also offers SecureMesh gas meter modules that can easily retrofit the most commonly deployed small- and large-diaphragm gas meters from manufacturers such as American, Rockwell, and Sprague. A battery-powered SecureMesh gas meter module provides operational life greater than 20 years. Unlike many systems, a gas-only network of SecureMesh enabled meters is possible, as well as a mixed network of SecureMesh electric and gas meters. Because Trilliant supports both electric and gas metering applications, a utility can employ the same SecureMesh NAN and infrastructure investment across both lines of business.
