Interoperability

Trilliant believes that interoperability holds the key to some of the main issues that face energy retailers rolling out smart energy deployments today, including issues such as risk of stranded assets, longevity of solutions and consumer acceptance of smart energy services.  We are certain that by creating pre-integrated products around a common component, utilities are able to more quickly deploy smart meters and other smart energy services into the field, with less risk and less development cost.  By utilising interoperable products, the utility is able to specify, procure and deploy unique solutions, whilst still maintaining choice and future-proofing services.  It also means that consumers are able to decide which equipment they wish installed in their homes.  By providing a choice of products and suppliers, the buy-in of homeowners to the smart meter future is assured.

Communications Hub Interoperability Group

The Trilliant Communications Hub Interoperability Group is a significant group of in-home smart energy service providers, aiming to develop interoperability across compliant products such as utility meters, in-home displays, smart thermostats and, in the future, other smart energy services and platforms.  The Interoperability Group utilises SSWG agreed Zigbee extensions created specifically for the UK market to ensure that members are able to demonstrate compatibility with the widest range of in-home devices.  This gives utilities a low cost, low risk route to market so that they can deliver the long-term benefits of smart meters to consumers quickly and effectively.

Members of The Trilliant Communications Hub Interoperability Group are able to access the Communications Hub Emulator, which is designed to reduce the cost of development and accelerate the time-to-market of interoperable products. This emulator supports early verification of interoperability in advance of full joint integration testing with the Trilliant Communications Hub before a production deployment.

The Communications Hub Interoperability Group is a robust alliance, providing a simpler, cost-effective way for UK utilities to adopt smart metering and to expedite the benefits of money saving energy management technology to consumers.  The benefits of deploying interoperable products will be manifold for utilities, government and consumers – lower development costs, introduction of consumer choice and less complex deployments.
