RF Network Planner

JOB DESCRIPTION

Acting as the technical lead on deployment projects, the Network Planner will be responsible for designing and approving sites, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity (including traffic analysis, coverage planning, frequency planning, and interference analysis). The Network Planner is also responsible for link budget analysis, ensuring solutions meet established design and performance goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Dimension and design Mesh network architecture in support of AMI rollout
  • Coordinating daily with Support Analysts and Managers on network performance and required maintenance
  • Ensuring superior endpoint performance and timely delivery of accurate to the end customer
  • Daily review of system reports for network/endpoint failures
  • Prioritizing, coordination, troubleshooting and performing RF maintenance activities as required
  • Ensuring network optimization, including the moving/removing of network hardware as required, the installation/repair of antennae and network upgrades
  • Testing and operating RF power meters, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and oscillator measurements (phase noise, spurious, stability, jitter, interference analysis)
  • Provide technical support for new equipment being installed on-site
  • You may be required to perform on-call duties, when assigned, to support network maintenance during off-hours, which could include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Coordinate/Plan with existing and potential customer’s network system requirements
  • Deliver technical training/information sessions to peers and customers
  • Willingness to travel within area of responsibility is a must

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of network design experience
  • Working knowledge of RF planning process and use of propagation tools as well as IP networking, WAN and LAN
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with RF instrumentation and tools
  • Experience in working at access point: installation, verification and RF optimization
  • Knowledge of mapping tools (Mentum Planet, MapInfo)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of principles and theory of basic electronics
  • Experience and understanding of RF propagation fundamentals and Antenna theory
  • Experience with 1X and GSM Radios required
  • Experience with 802.15.4 2.4 GHz Radio a plus
  • Experience with WIMAX, WIFI Mesh, or other MESH/WIFI technologies
  • Windows and MS office, including Word, Excel (especially the statistical features)
  • Utility communications systems experience a plus

 

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION

  • Post-secondary degree in related field (Electrical Engineering, Cellular Network Design)
