Capgemini and Trilliant Provide AMI Solution to Help Hydro One Win North American Award for Smart Metering Initiative
Toronto, Ontario and Redwood City, California, September 19, 2007 – Capgemini Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Capgemini, one of the world's foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, and Trilliant Incorporated, the industry's leading provider of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) based on open standards, today announced that they served as the AMI solution provider team for Hydro One's Smart Metering Project, winner of Utility Planning Network's (UPN) 2007 Metering Award. To date, Hydro One has installed more than 160,000 smart meters and is on track to have 240,000 installed by the end of 2007.

The Best AMR Initiative in a North American Municipal Utility award will be presented October 1, 2007, at the invitation only UPN Metering Awards Workshop in Reno, Nevada. AMR (also referred to as smart metering) describes the hardware, software, and connectivity required for a fully functioning smart metering system.

The Hydro One Smart Meter solution includes an end-to-end standards based AMI system from Trilliant. This solution supports all major meter manufacturers as well as a broad range of end-point devices for energy conservation, such as in-home real-time energy monitors and automated smart thermostats. Over-the-air upgrade capability ensures that as new services, devices and networks evolve they will be supported by the systems that Hydro One has chosen. The system will enhance power restoration efforts by alerting the company to power outages in real time and provide the infrastructure for a truly smart grid.

Capgemini is delivering smart metering services across 14 workstreams, including systems integration, process design, planning, management and automation of meter and wide-area network deployment and several other functions, including program management services, to provide tight integration across this large Hydro One initiative.

"This is an important recognition for Hydro One, and we congratulate them and are proud to be part of the team working on this smart metering project," said Dominic Dodds, vice president and Hydro One account executive, Capgemini. "Smart metering provides consumers with the tools to conserve energy consistent with the Ontario government's goal, and provides the foundation for Hydro One to deliver further innovative products and services in the future."

"We congratulate Hydro One on their well-deserved recognition as they lead the market in the realization of benefits achievable through AMI solutions," said Bill Vogel, president and CEO of Trilliant. "We are pleased to be part of this talented and hardworking team."
